LOSS OF FIRE STATION NIGHT TIME COVER IN WINDSOR

You may recall that the Fire Station located in St Marks Road was closed and is now flats.  An “outstation” is now located in Tinkers Lane, which I understand doesn’t quite provide 24 hour cover as there is “downtime” whilst shifts at Slough are briefed and travel to Windsor and then travel back to Slough and are debriefed.   There is a consultation by the Berkshire Fire Service because they have to significatnly cut their costs (£1.4m) and one proposal is to close this “outstation” overnight with appliances being despatched to Windsor from Slough.   There have been a couple of Information Days, but if you missed these and want to respond go to http://www.rbfrs.co.uk/consultation/

Coincidentally it has come to Councillors attention, although residents have known this for a long time, that the speed bumps along Dedworth Road slow down Fire Appliances so much that its quicker in many cases for a vehicle to be despatched from Slough to Windsor!
