Walking Into Windsor

Time To Walk?

There is plenty of advice telling us that walking is good for us. Now that Living Street’s National Walking Week is over you can decide.   If you feel like stretching your legs on a nice summer’s day why not walk into Windsor.  Whenever I walk I see busy roads full of cars but, with the exception of school times, there are very few pedestrians around.  The photos in this post prove the point and were taken mid-morning on a weekday.  Why not add your footprints to these pavements?

When you visit Windsor town centre have you considered walking? Living near All Saints Church it takes about 30 minutes to walk into town and 35-40 minutes to King Edward Hospital. There are different routes to avoid much of Dedworth Road and Clarence Road and on nice days it is easy to walk down Parsonage Lane, through Clewer Village and pick up the path along the river. From there walk across Alexander Gardens and use the stairs or lift at the coach park to bring you into King Edward Court.

Route 1 – The most basic route is along Dedworth Road to the Clarence Road roundabout – use subway on north side to Albert Street and Bexley Street. Follow Clarence Crescent if you want St Leonards Road or the footpath next to Ward Royal for Peascod Street.

Follow path into Hanover Way, cross Vale Road into Shirley Avenue and enter Clewer Memorial recreation ground and follow path to Oak Lane.   From Oak Lane turn right towards Clarence Road roundabout (Route 1) or left down Parsonage Lane to the river route.

Route 3 –   Along Dedworth Road to Shell garage, cross over to footpath into Green Lane. Follow Green Lane, cross Imperial Road at crossing to Green Lane on the other side. Either cross over and make your way into St Leonards Road or follow Alma Road to footpath next to Ward Royal (On Route 1)

For those who need it for return journey you can pick up the 77 bus at the Parish Church stop or in Victoria Street (just along from St Leonards Rd) and there are many stops along Dedworth Road before it turns into Ruddlesway. The service is about half hourly (Except Sundays and Bank Hols) and First Bus has invested in brand new state of the art buses. Occasionally they do use older buses.
