Several residents have been raising concerns about the lack of care given to the planters installed fairly recently in Dedworth. The Winter plantings were being left to die in situ and when the summer planting took place some plants were put in dry compost. It appeared that plants were not being regularly watered. Cllr Ed Wilson (Clewer South) took up the cause and he’s informed me that
- “They will be watered weekly and more frequently in spells of hot weather.
- Watering includes special feed and water retention pellets are in the planters already.
- Water retaining compost is being used, but not bark chips.
- This lot of plants will be replaced in September.
- A proper plan for rotation will be in place thereafter.
Hopefully we will see the planters become a useful addition to Dedworth. I will be monitoring this situation closely in the future.” He also followed up my suggestion that planters would be welcome outside the shops at Five Ways. So thank you Ed for helping make Dedworth beautiful.
