WWRA Budget Proposals to Council 21 February 2023

In Council on Tuesday 21 February 2023, Cllrs Carole DA COSTA and Wisdom DA COSTA presented three Budget Amendments to help better utilise the £3.97m Windfall Income that the Council Received, and use some of the £”tens of millions” the Council receives in Developer Contributions, which rarely seem to be used to benefit us in Windsor.

Our proposals focused on areas of DIRE NEED in the Borough, amongst adults in care, and in Windsor, with improvements to bus services and also walkable pavements, extra pedestrian crossings in key locations and, useable drop kerbs for pedestrians.

HOW DID THE RULING CONSERVATIVES VOTE ON OUR PROPOSALS?

The MONEY WAS AND IS AVAILABLE, the need is clearly established, no Conservative proposal was affected and, we spent 6 weeks working with senior officers to develop and cost the proposals to create CREDIBLE NECESSARY PROPOSALS.

So you would think that the Conservatives would have voted for residents, the vulnerable in their care, and suffering Windsorians.

But they voted a group to say no and reject our proposals for you.

Actually, it’s worse than that.

LET’S STOP ELDER & CARE SERVICE ABUSE

They voted to continue to continue abuse the elderly and vulnerable in their care – we proposed extra money to allow for the resumption of welfare checks and implementation of audits and financial clawback on evidently failing care contractors in the face of damning evidence – Cost £175,000

LET’S IMPROVE PUBLIC TRANSPORT IN WINDSOR

They voted to continue to isolate and separate hundreds of Windsorians from needed bus services such as people who live on Wolf Lane, Washington Drive, Poolmans, Priors, Keepers Farm and others. This also harms local businesses who can not get the custom of these now isolate residents – we had proposed that the No. 16 Bus routes along Foster Avenue and Wolf Lane – Cost £150,000

The Conservatives voted against developing a usable & reliable No. 2 bus service to Windsor & Slough to increase the frequency of busses – Cost £75,000

The Conservatives voted against the creation of a Night Bus Service to open up the Town Centre’s Night Time Economy for locals which would also benefit local businesses – Cost £225,000

LET’S ENCOURAGE SAFE WALKING IN WINDSOR

The Conservatives voted against improving key Windsor Pavements, Windsor Walkways, to help people out of their car and make walking fun again – Cost over three years of £1.89M to be funded by Developer Contributions

The Conservatives voted against improving pavements on Ruddlesway, Gallys Road, Smiths Lane, Wolf Lane, Vale Road, Dedworth Road and Clewer Hill Road.

The Conservatives voted against new safe crossing points at the Willows, Dedworth Medical Centre on Vale Road, Ruddles Way, Outside Schools etc…

The Conservatives voted against the installation of easy-to-access drop kerbs so people, parents, children and the elderly can cross roads more easily.

WHAT NEXT

The need is still there and increasing.

The funding is available.

The Conservatives won’t listen.

Let’s consider a different political party to control RBWM and, your WWRA Councillors will try and get them to see sense.

ARE YOU AFFECTED BY THESE ISSUES?

  • Are you being stranded on Clewer Hill unable to get to the shops?
