Some electors in the Royal Borough have received an initial communication from the Electoral Register Team with the details that RBWM currently holds on the register for them that contains a stipulation that no response is required if the information is correct.
However, because of an issue with the council’s software, a secondary data match process was undertaken after this communication was sent, and some electors have now been asked to provide evidence to support their registration, or they will be removed from the register.
This has understandably caused some confusion and frustration because of the mixed messages and the council’s team is working to resolve all queries as quickly as it can.
The team have considered sending out a more formal communication around this but there is a concern that this will lead to further confusion.
Therefore, the team is addressing this directly with each response received which is so far, a substantial number of residents that have received the letter.
Residents who have questions can contact the council’s registration helpline by calling 01628 683868 or email electoral.registration@rbwm.gov.uk
The council’s electoral team will not be automatically removing anyone from the register without further checks being completed, should it not get a response by the deadline.
The team knows what has caused this issue and has already made provisions to make sure it can be avoided in the future.
