The Windsor Food Academy initiative: Volunteers needed

Announcing the Windsor Food Academy; an opportunity to walk together to develop children and so our community

Here’s a great chance for Windsorians young and old to pull together to build a deeper, stronger community.

Bravo Thames Valley Police, RBWM, The Army Covenant and you.

A “Food Academy” has been set up in Windsor to support of children’s personal, social and emotional development by giving them opportunities to develop their self-confidence and self-awareness.

Supported, funded and initiated by Thames Valley Police, The Army Covenant and RBWM, the programme will consist of a number of 8 week cooking programmes throughout the year which culminate in a Community Banquet.

The Food Academy should provide a forum for learning and development, with students coming from diverse communities and will include those vulnerable to crime or social exclusion.

Sessions will run on a weekday evening in Windsor.

Volunteers needed

TVP are calling for volunteers to help the scheme succeed. Volunteers will need good interpersonal skills are required and a desire to help mentor and support young people. Volunteers need to be over 18 years old.

Sgt Calver, Thames Valley Police

Here’s what our local TVP Sergeant, Jemma Calver said, “We are running an initiative in conjunction with Broome Farm Welfare to support the integration of the military community within Windsor West.”

Funding has been provided under the Army Covenant to implement a Partnership initiative designed to promote life skills, build self-esteem and develop positive relationships with youngsters from the community.

The initiative consists of a 6 week cooking course which will lead to the students cooking food for a banquet, supported by Combermere Barracks and other partner agencies.  Those involved will receive a Craft Guild of Chefs certificate.

It sounds like a great and promising scheme, don’t you think?
