A Letter from the Chair

WWRA Vector Logo Smooth SQUAREDear fellow residents,

The latest copy of our newsletter West Wind (October 2014) will be delivered to members shortly, and will also be published here on our community website. I like to take the opportunity of developing the themes in my Chairman’s address unconstricted by the column inches available on paper. I’d like to start by paraphrasing the WWRA’s aims

  1. To safeguard, promote and represent the interests of the residents
  2. To promote the just, efficient and economical governance of West Windsor i.e. fairness for all
  3. To help whenever possible, in all matters, for the benefit of the resident members…collectively and individually.

You can find the aims in full at “About Us”, “Aims & Ethos”, or click here, and you can become a member by downloading the member form (click here) and returning it to the address on the form.

2014 thus far

2014 has been an eventful year for the WWRA, thus far, which unfolded like a memorable story, with;

  • the successful inclusion of West Windsor into Windsor Neighbourhood Plan Forum after campaigning by the WWRA, and in particular past Chairman, John Holdstock – Clewer North and Clewer South had been cut out by the actions of certain individuals including Conservative Councillors
  • the sad passing of our dearly loved, and highly esteemed, colleague Cynthia Endacott, Councillor for Clewer North
  • the resounding victory of our sponsored candidate in the ensuing by election
  • the launch of our influential website at www.wwra.org.uk, and our Twitter account at @WWRA1
  • our ongoing campaigning against Heathrow’s broken promises on unfair flight and noise distribution over Windsor, and now
  • WWRA Facebook Logosthe launch of the WWRA Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/westwindsorresidents

Prospects for a golden 2015 together

2015 will be a pivotal year for Windsor

Proposed third runway

2015 will be a pivotal year for Windsor, with many things coming to the boil, including;

  • Heathrow’s unfair flight noise continuing and the proposed third runway
  • plans for the proposed construction of up to 1,000 houses at the west end of Windsor being unveiled
  • the crystallising of the Borough’s Local Plan
  • the vital development of resident friendly planning regulations, with the two Neighbourhood Plans, to counteract the Government’s and Borough’s builder’s charters
  • the retirement of two of the three Independent Councillors for ClewerNorth, Cllr John Fido, and Cllr John Penfold
  • Polling Station at Homer School

    the May 2015 elections, which will see many existing and former Windsor, Tory Councillors replaced including George Bathurst, Peter Lawless, Simon Meadowcroft, and the word is out that another three Windsor Councillors might not stand

  • the need for a new WWRA Chairman, to allow me to focus on Council duties, and your new Chair to speak out freely on issues, unencumbered by “effective” Council restrictions – we need to shine the spotlight more strongly than ever on poor conduct and areas of concern
  • the continuing development of the WWRA into new areas
  • MagnaCarta

    the uncovering of the Windsor Link Railway plot, and its potentially tragic effects on Windsor traffic

  • the Magna Carta 800 celebrations which will take place in West Windsor, and around Runnymede and the Royal Borough

So I urge you to get involved and volunteer to help the WWRA, or act as Chairman, or stand for election as a Councillor. If you and we don’t, those currently in power will do what they want to do. Together, let’s develop a better Windsor, better for all regardless of age, income or circumstance.

Remember, democracy starts at the ballot box and begins with your vote. If you don’t…

Have a great Christmas, and come and take part in 2015.
