Where is RBWM on achievement on Environment & Climate Change? What can you do to improve this? Where can you validly make your comments? What sort of things could you say?
INTRODUCTION
RBWM is a long way behind the curve on achieving Net Zero C emissions
It has not established credible regulations that will protect residents and house buyers from the increasing extremes of weather that even the MetOffice are predicting* – tens of thousands of extra deaths are predicted in the UK each year from extreme cold, heat, precipitation etc..
It has done little to stave off extinctions of species and ecosystems which are at levels not seen since the dinosaurs were wiped out. They never recovered and nor will ours.
WHAT CAN YOU MAKE TO IMPROVE THIS?
Complete the Budget Survey by 23 January 2023 – more information and guidance at www.shorturl.at/dlpV6
Remember the key issue is to make your suggestions using one or more of the criteria from RBWM’s current Corporate Plan
• Download the Corporate Plan from www.shorturl.at/pwyBL
• Scroll down and read our previous article at www.shorturl.at/gkmP1
WHERE CAN YOU VALIDLY MAKE YOUR COMMENTS?
Most of the suggestions fit into the PLACE Directorate and, in particular;
• Highways
• Transport
• Infrastructure
• Waste Management
• Planning Authority
• Planning Policy
• Planning Control & Enforcement
• Parks & Countryside
• Climate Change
• Economic Growth
• Sustainability
• Sport and Leisure
You can make comments primarily in Q. 12 on the Survey “Do you have any comments or concerns about specific budget proposals for Place?”
WHAT SORT OF THINGS COULD YOU SAY?
How about a package of changes to our Highways and Transport to implement together to reduce polluting emissions from fossil fuels. Reduce C emissions, Improve local air quality and health standards and, improve health, well-being, mobility and economic security of residents.
The suggestion package could comprise;
• A Regional Integrated Green Public Transport Service with Neighbouring LAs combines with
• A LEZ together with improvements to infrastructure and,
• Road infrastructure to cyclists, pedestrians & EVs
This would qualify under the following Corporate Plan objectives;
• Taking action to tackle climate change and its consequences, and improving our natural environment.
• Empower and enable individuals, communities and businesses to maximise their potential.
• Promote health and wellbeing, and focus on reducing inequalities, across all areas.
MORE IDEAS ON CLIMATE CHANGE AND THE ENVIRONMENT
We have a lot of other suggestions FOR DISCUSSION which cover;
• Infrastructure
• Waste Management
• Planning Authority
• Planning Policy
• Planning Control & Enforcement
• Parks & Countryside
• Climate Change
• Economic Growth
• Sustainability
• Sport and Leisure
Have a look at our other suggestions which include strengthening our BLP and SPD. Employing more staff to facilitate this, mitigating the costs through greater Enforcement and the creation of an Environmental Consultancy Service (which I know from my work in Industry and as a Pension Fund Trustee that corporates and pension funds are crying out for)
