A new teaching and training centre which opened yesterday has been named after, much-loved school governor, WWRA member, and Clewer North Councillor, Cynthia Endacottwho died last year.

The Cottage, incorporating The Endacott Suite, provides the school with extra class space for the children, as well as a place from which to run community projects such as our family SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) workshops and weekly coffee stop for parents.  The Endacott Suite is name in honour of Cynthia Endacott who supported Homer First School over many years as a member of the Board of Governors, and who is sorely missed.

Francis Batt, writing in the Royal Observer said, “The centre which will host drama and music sessions as well as teacher training workshops and Family Link meetings has been created out of the old caretaker’s cottage at Homer First School in Testwood Road” – Click here to see the full article

Cynthia’s husband John Endacott said, “she would have been thrilled by the honour of the dedication of the suite in her memory”

Lynn Mirfin, from Homer First School said, “We were delighted that members of Cynthia’s family were able to attend the official opening.”

The facility is available to hire by the wider community.  Any enquiries, email fin.homer@rbwm.org.uk.

Francis Batt again wrote.  “A CHARMING, courteous and hard-working’ councillor who stayed Independent while working with both Conservative and Lib Dem administrations has been posthumously rewarded for her long service.

Cllr Cynthia Endacott died earlier this year after 19 years representing the Royal Borough’s Clewer North ward as an Independent councillor. On Tuesday, the Royal Borough’s Mayor Cllr Richard Kellaway and his wife the Mayoress Mary-Lou visited Mrs Endacott’s family home in Aston Mead, Windsor, to present her husband John with a decanter and glass set in acknowledgement of his wife’s work with the borough.

Council colleagues past and present also gathered at the house, joined by Deputy Mayor James Evans, who lives in nearby Dedworth Road and represents neighbouring Clewer South ward.

The Mayor recalled Mrs Endacott’s extraordinary career on the Royal Borough which included a spell as Deputy Mayor in 1997 and a period as lead member for social services, when the Independent councillors formed an alliance with the Conservatives.

Describing Mrs Endacott as ‘charming, courteous and hard-working’ the Mayor said: “She was an Independent councillor who took part in alliances with both Conservative and Liberal Democrat parties.

This was a very unusual career and an inspiring one.” Mrs Endacott’s devoted husband John told the Mayor: “She could get away with it because she was non-confrontational.” Cllr Kellaway agreed, saying: “She was highly respected because of it.” Her fellow Clewer North councillors John Fido and John Penfold watched the presentation, along with former council colleague Jamie Jamieson.” – Click here to see more

Tom Worthy

Tom Worthy a long time member of the WWRA died on 17 January 2015, aged 92. This amazing man was until even a few months ago still distributing West Wind newsletters for the Association, and collecting subscriptions. Tom also served in the Royal Tank Corps and was in the Italian Campaign.

Now that’s what I call a true hero, and someone to be looked up to. His selfless, community spirit is a great example to our all, whether you’re aged 18 or 80, we should seek to emulate Tom commitment to the cause.

Tom’s funeral was last Friday at Slough Crematorium.

Our condolences to his wife Betty, and their family.
